Whats the consensus on horizontal mounting of receptacles- neutral up or down. My first instinct is to check the code. I haven't found anything that speaks to that question. My vote is neutral up, however the question was posed to me today because we are adding plugs to a room where the existing receptacles are mounted neutral down. We work under a microscope at this job and need to have an explanation for such minutia.
It seems like there's no specific code requirement. It's like the ground hole up or down debate.

Some people prefer the neutral up (in case something falls on the plug). Others prefer the hot side up, so they can see when they're plugging it in.

'course it doesn't make a difference when you're dealing with plugging un-polarized two-pin caps into an outlet... [Linked Image]

It would to the "neutral up" people. The top blade of the cap becomes the "hot" side. Or am I misinterpreting?
