Are fasteners required to be listed?

Another thread brought this question up, and I've had an incident in the past that brings up similar questions.

To make a short story long, I had installed a bunch of (deep) handy boxes in a shed for various receptacles and switches. Got a call back several weeks later with the complaint of boxes sparking a carrying-on...

When I get there, I realize my mistake of using hex head 10x1 screws by GreenLee, which have a sharp edge on them and over time was cutting into the conductors. No problem, my bad and all that, I replaced them all with 10x1 panhead screws (still GreenLee) and all was well that ends well.

I guess it comes down to this: Do fasteners have to be listed, and if not, what are the guidelines on what type of fasteners to use?

I, of course, would assume that if any fastener was listed, GreenLee's would be...

Go figure...

Virgil,

Pat yourself on the back for using screws & not nails, as so many in our state do.

No, there is no listing requirement that I've ever heard of., thank goodness.

As a personal note, I've been working just down the road from Whipple, WV. Can you find that on your map? Whipple is the home of Walton Bail Bonds, whose motto is "we'll keep your feet on the street." Whipple probably doesn't even have 1000 residents, let alone a jail. I wonder why it has a bail bondsman.

Would that be the Whipple near Oak Hill?

I've worked in Oak Hill, did some control work for a health club there... They had guys plugging and switching and hanging fixtures, but nobody wanted to tackle the control work for the hottub, sauna and steam room. They called me to come 100 miles one-way to do the job. I'm no guru when it comes to control work, but it was fairly simple stuff. Once again, go figure.
