In sec 210.63 it states that a receptacle is required within 25' of all HVAC equipment. There is an exception that states,"A receptacle outlet shall not be required at one and two family dwellings for the service of evaporative coolers."

Someone said to me yesterday that a receptacle is no longer required within 25' of dwelling HVAC units. He was told that it was only required for commercial installs. He was told this by a local AHJ.

Any thoughts?

He is wrong.

An evaroratve cooler is different that HVAC condensor. Evaporative coolers are used in dry climates because there isn't much moisture in the air.

SC,

I think around here they were called swamp coolers or the larger ones are called cooling towers.

Sounds like another fairy tale to me.
