How many wires can fit in a 1/2" and 3/4" tomac.?

How about a 1 1/2" romex connector?

I was just recently failed due to 3 12-2, a 14-3 and 2 14-2 under a 3/4 tomac. I also use 1 1/2" romex connectors often for HR in panels and I never thought about how many could fit. I just never filled them tight.

a tomac i gather is a brand name such as thomas and bates correct?
and if so you have to go by the ul listing on the package it came in.

Cable connectors are for one cable only unless they are listed for more. Some connectors from Arlington can take 3 or more cables. Check the package the connectors come in, itwill list all combinations if the connectors are rated for more than one cable.

First of all, they're "Tomic", not tomac. (Also, it's "Thomas & Betts") They're the old-fashioned 2-piece steel clamps with two screws we come across during sevice upgrades.

As for cable quantity, check with the manufacturer to be sure, but here's what I've found through experience:

I once had to remove one cable (14-2 or 12-2) from each Halex pop-in plastic connector in a panel. I had put in three each, but the inspector said they're only rated for two each.

Just for fun, I checked with Halex, and they told me they're rated for one cable each. That's it. I chose to not say anything to the inspector the next day.

Larger connectors are for larger cables, and not for a larger quantity of cables. So, if you're asking how many cables are allowed, as opposed to how many will fit, I'd have to say one, one, and one.

Larry is correct. The term "Tomic" is actually a slang expression commonly used by probably all of us and is as pictured in his post. The Actual words out of the UL White book are:
Quote
Except for duplex connectors or when otherwise marked on the carton
to indicate connecting of more than one cable or cord, the connectors covered
under this category have been investigated for connecting one cable
or cord only.

Thanks for the graphic Larry.
