See 300.6(A)(3)where this is a new requirement that would allow the special tape to be used.

I am looking for the product that we use.
I don't see the word "tape" used. 300.6(A) says "electrically conductive corrosion resistant compound" and "corrosion resistant material" (usually galvanizing).
I think plastic is rapidly making metal obsolete wherever it can be used.
How many people here actually "pot" the exposed threads of IMC and RMC?
This is what steelconduit.org says about it
"14.Factory cut threads have corrosion protection applied at the factory. Field cut threads are required to be coated "with an approved electrically conductive, corrosion-resistant compound "where corrosion protection is necessary " (see NECĀ® 2002 300.6 (A). We recommend that all field cut threads be protected against corrosion where they will be installed in wet or outdoor locations. The thread surface should be protected with conductive rust resistant coating. Zinc-rich paint is a typical coating, but there are other conductive coatings that can be used.

Field threads should be cut one thread short. This will insure a good connection and allow the entire thread surface to be inside the coupling."
I am told that 3M makes a product listed for this application, but I haven't seen it.

I don't see any reference to a U/L listingh although there are several ASTM standards referenced in the PDF

Joe, did you see a U/L listing for that tape. I couldn't find one
My apologies, I was thinking the reference required a listing, but it only requires "approval".

I did hear that there was something listed for this, however. I'll see if I can find out more.
If you believe the steel conduit folks they say their product is OK without any extra protection.
I don't believe them with EMT but RMC seems to hold up, even here in the swamp. I dug some up that has been in the ground since 1963 and it was OK.

Just as an FYI, UL has addressed this issue, here is an article from them in the Nov/Dec 2002 IAEI News, UL Question Corner. http://www.ul.com/regulators/novdec2002.pdf

As the article states, the correct "guide" for these products is "FOIZ" and you can see what products have been "listed" by going to the UL Online Certifications Directory and type in FOIZ for a list. http://database.ul.com/cgi-bin/XYV/template/LISEXT/1FRAME/index.htm

BTW, at the moment, I only see one product listed when I do the search. You would think there would be more since it has been in the NEC for 3 years. [Linked Image]
