Can you install threadless compression fittings underground for a RMC installation?

Why not? I've done it before.

Checkout article 344.10 (B) Corrosive Enviroments.

My thinking is - Just because it listed as suitable for a wet location or corrosive environment does not make it suitable for direct burial.

334.10(B) Corrosion Environments. RMC, elbows, couplings, and fittings shall be permitted to be installed in concrete, in direct contact with the earth, or in areas subject to severe corrosive influences where protected by corrosion protection and judged suitable for the condition.

Is direct burial 'not in direct contact with the earth'?

If not where is the permission to run any RMC or fittings underground?
