Is it legal to use a 4 conductor cord in place of 4 individual wires to run a circuit in EMT from the 3 phase distribution panel to a 3 phase air compressor? The cord has Red/Black/White/Green wires. At either end of the cord where the outer sheath is skinned back, can the white wire be wrapped with blue tape to indicate it is one of the hot leads instead of a neutral?

I assume you are referring to a cord that would fall under article 400, and if that is correct, see 400.8(6).

Has anyone encountered cable that is listed both as a flexible cord (one of the cable types in table 400.4) and which is _also_ listed as a cable assembly suitable for fixed wiring (eg. type NM, TC or one of the others)?

Frankly, no. Last 'new' item I ran into is PVC coated MC cable. Can't say your cord doesn't exist, but haven't seen it.

400.8 (1) prohibits cord being used for permanent wiring. ('02 & '05)

Basically, if you're running EMT, why not THHN??? (Probably cheaper also)
