In NYC, currently with NEC 2005, can we use PVC floor box on a commercial office bldg? PVC link - (http://www.lewelectric.com/cfm/pvc.cfm) Or must be use Cast iron (water-tight) commercial grade? Commercial grade link -(http://www.lewelectric.com/cfm/commercial.cfm) Please help. Thank you.

All depends on what the city will accept.... I imagine it will be the same for PVC conduit?

Although it may not be totaly up to date if you say they are on the 2005?, I would suspect that thier ammendments will limit use in the same way.

And / or the type of occupancy, like theaters...
Anyway, it looks clear that RNC isnt allowed except under/behind a 1 Hour barrier to any exposure. I guess it would be the same for a box.

Oh, if you need to use metal conduit, that will also trigger 314.3, and would only be allowed if it falls under the exceptions.... if metal conduit is used with PVC boxes they need to ground through...
