I look at that Map every now and then to get an idea of what's adopted where, but I wish it was more complete. As you probably know we sell all of these codes in our online store here but once in awhile someone asks what code do I need? The info they have there doesn't show that there is a New York or New Jersey Building Code, etc. only that they are based on the International Codes.

I've been trying to compile a better list but haven't had time to do much about it yet.

Do you know of any areas using the 2000 UBC? or the new NFPA Building Codes?

The UBC was an ICBO document. The ICBO is now a part of the ICC, so the last UBC written was the 1997 version. The NFPA put out their bulding code called NFPA 5000, but California is the only state that has expressed any interest in it.

Like some of the other states you mention, California creates the "California Building Code" after adopting a standard such as the UBC or NFPA 5000. From what I am hearing, once California is done chopping up the NFPA 5000, you won't even recognize it!

I'll see what I can find to help you out, but in the mean time, see if this site helps you any. Be aware that it is slightly dated.

I misspoke, I meant the 2000 (and 2003) Uniform Codes (UMC, UPC, UFC), not the UBC. (I think that CA might be based on these, but don't know of anyone else)

I think the info on that spreadsheet is basically the same as what's on the Map. It doesn't really help as much as it could, but I think their main point is just to show how many States and Municipalaties base their codes on the International series.

Yes, Bill, we here in the grey State of CA have our Codes based on the UBC, etc.
California certainly doesn't have any modern thinking when it comes to Codes.
Our 2002 California Electrical Code is essentially the 1999NEC, and was implemented just last Nov 1, 2002. We're way behind.
Ryan, some "chopping up" of the structural Codes are necessary here because of our unique seismic situation, which isn't adequately addressed in the supposed "all encompassing" Codes.

I would agree that each state should chop up their codes a bit due to geographic issues. What bothers me is when they do it for no reason...like MA and their amended table to 310.16...Gee, I didn't know electrons moved slower in MA!!!

What is the story with the County and City of Los angeles?

Do the City Amendments modify the County Amendments or the State Amendments?

Here is LA's adopted codes.

I was told a few years ago by the LA Chief electrical inspector that the state is trying to force all jurisdictions to adopt the state code without amendments to standardize throughout the state. That obviously has not come to pas yet.
BTW: San Francisco also has a very long list of amendments to the CEC.
