More from my collection.
This is a replica of a sign from a New York city hotel.
The fine print states:
The use of electricity for lighting is in no way harmful to health, nor does it affect the soundness of sleep.

There is a story of a native American Chief that went to Washington to visit the Capitol and when he went to bed he blew out the gas light in his hotel room. He did not turn off the gas. The explosion in the morning set back relations between the government and the tribe for a period of time.

Ihave heard of city hotels having signs warning their (supposedly rural candle or oil lit) patrons to turn of the valve on a gas light.
