What is the status of NFPA 79, Electrical Standard for Industrial Machinery, and NFPA 70E, Standard for Electrical Safety Requirements for Employee Workplaces? Has OSHA "adopted" or "referenced" them in part or full, directly or via ANSI? How do the provisions of these documents affect repairs to EXISTING machinery, i.e the replacement of a door safety limit or E-stop switch?

OSHA can already reference (cite) NFPA 79, as well as most of NFPA 70E using the "General Duty Clause" (section 5 (a) (1) from the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSH Act) passed by Congress in 1970 (became effective in 1971).
Regarding the replacement of electrical parts / components, first the manufacturers instructions / specifications have to be followed and the replacement components must be listed by an OSHA NRTL (Nationally recognized testing laboratory)such as UL, FM, etc.
