I'm not sure if this question qualifies as a purely electrical question- but perhaps one of the moderators will be able to think this one over. My friend believes that it is unhealthy to sit and study/write with the laptop sitting directly on my lap. He thinks that either the radioactivity could be absorbed quite readily, and literally, into me.
Do you think that this is a valid concern??
Thanks,
Mordechai
There shouldn't be any actual radioactivity from a laptop computer,so this isn't a problem.
If the concern is really about EM (electromagnetic) fields however, then we're into the three-ring circus of claims and counter-claims about just how much, if any, damage such fields can do.
After seeing this item, I would worry more about an ordinary thermal burn, before losing any sleep over the EMFs.
http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/54/28245.html I have heard stories about cancers and infertility among cops who sat in a patrol car all day with their radar gun resting in their laps, though....
Well, I think its unanimous- any possibility of damaging important bodyparts is not good- although- I shouldn't worry too much about burning myself in the same way that that man in the article did- ('Mordechai' is the name of my gorgeous big orange tom cat) But, I would worry too about it affecting my feritlity. As my friend said, 'you're going to fry your eggs!'
