About 6 years ago I was in Las Vegas as part of a focus group for Hilti Tools. Construction, residential and commercial, was booming beyond belief. How is it now? Is anyone here from the Las Vegas area? My particular group of 20 electrical contractors included a couple from the Las Vegas area who said there was a shortage of qualified electricians at the time. I was wondering if it was still true.

I was asked to come out and work as an electrician in Las Vegas 11 years ago. I declined because my whole family is here on the east coast. But yes, Las Vegas is fastest growing city in all of North America so to me that means things are still busy out there.

I was there in September and they had projects everywhere you looked. Unless something drastic happens they will be working on the strip for another 10 years.

I have a few freinds that went out there last year, and have worked everyday. My wife and I deposit a few paychecks there twice a year, and it is always amazing how much more is built every 6 months. High end condos right off the strip seem to be what is booming.

I think the more appropiate question is how much time do you want to yourself. I left Vegas because I was at work too much. There is tons of work in the commercial trades, but not as much in the residential right now. I lived next to a carpenter and a glazier and they worked as much as they wanted to, and sometimes more; Usually 60 hours a week. If you like EMT and THHN then Vegas is a great destination town. Last I heard the population was growing at about 6000 people per month...

I posted this topic because I'm thinking about relocating to a drier climate. I don't gamble, drink or use drugs so I think I might do okay in the Vegas area. Running EMT and pulling thhn is when I'm most content.

I thought about moving to vegas too. No problem with EMT but sometimes I wonder if I could make as good as living doing somting different there.
