I need to add several outlets in the middle of a commercial kitchen that I have ceiling access to. Is there a premade floor to ceiling enclosure designed for this, customer asked for stainless.

You mean like an office style "power-pole"?
(A pedistal floor to cieling with a few outlets?)

Dare I say it, you might be able to get something custom to suit for about what you would pay for something like that, and more appropriate for the use, and conditions.

I have done several Comm. Kitchens where I just had the Counter Fabricator make me some troughs to wire through with MC and cut in boxes, with an accessable duct to the cieling. I have also done the same for some light industrial apps where I did the same, just hired out the metal fab to a shop that does all of our panel and other custom box work here in the area. You draw it, they build it.

Then of course you could just pipe right out of the cieling to boxes where you want them, done that too.

Now, someone will suggest >Cring< 'wiremold'....

It's funny that this thread appears here now because I have the same type job to do in the next couple of days where I have two commercial refridgerators (one coke, one pepsi) in the middle of a liquor store. There used to be a wall with a receptacle feeding the two, now they took the wall down and there's just some EMT "flapping-in-the-breeze" that needs to be deleted from the scope of work. I was going to use a floor mat (suited for the purpose) and run a cord to the two machines, or, do a power pole from the ceiling.

There is no place but the floor to attach a box to and any suggestions would be helpful.

Oh, Ron, 8-10' 4X4 gutter, cut-in boxes for the outlets with an angle grinder, pipe into the end and mount top with a 'T' strut fitting, screw the bottom right to the floor. (Or if subject to wash down, put it on a post of strut above the floor.) You can run the conductors right through the gutter, and put them through a bushing into the cut-in boxes. An EGC is not a bad idea if going through pre-made KO's...

Might work for you too Highground, if it weren't for the stainless....

'unistrut' is available in stainless steel, and you can get various fittings which permit you to use the strut itself as a raceway. I've never used it in this sort of application, but might be worth looking into.

I'm having a hard time understanding how either the trough or the unistrut (kindorf) gets secured to the floor. Both are great ideas, though.

OK, how about a Wiremold Power Pole?? Last year we installed four (4) stainless steel PP's with 2 duplex recept, 2-120 circ, and a raceway for data. Cost was $290+/- each, 10' 4" OAL; T bar hardware and floor flange thing. Comm kitchen in country club.

Forgot, Wiremold also makes 4000 raceway; back & cover seperate; fittings to hold duplex (or ANY device), dividers, L,T; and a lot of other fittings.

Uh... Screws or anchors of choice....

Jon, interesting, I didn't know they had outlets too. I have used the real deep stuff for lights on trelesed cielings before. But it seems they only have outlets in white powder coat, and the steel is something they reffer to as "Pickled", whatever that is.....

Is there anything wrong with just using strut and piping down the strut to a box? Maybe even a bell box. Then put a 90 bracket on the floor and something on top. That wire mold power pole is over priced.

I have used pendant boxes for this application. It keeps the counter and work area clear of any electrical.

I like the Woodhead boxes and the yellow "food grade" cord.
