I am looking to find out if anyone out there can help me out with finding some basic onfo out on fire/ burg. alarm wiring. I work for a company that does such and im now being asked to learn such. For those of you who do not know of me i have been on this site for sometime. Any and all help would be great where i can locate books etc.

I would think that your company would have a pile of books on the subject.
But, if not, try Construction Bookstore.

For fire alarms try the latest NFPA catalog.A lot of good general info but nothing brand spicific. Also you may want to talk to your fire alarm suppliers. It is to their benifit for you to learn as much as you can it makes their checkout easier.

If your company sells Firelite they offer free/cheap training classes that travel the country. You can probably get in even if you don't.... I went to one that was three days, day 1 was fire alarm basics, circuit types, deiierent detectors ans such, day two was training on their conventional panels, and day three was on the 9600/9800 addressable systems. My company can be pretty cheap when it comes to any training besides on the job, and they sent five of us to the class.

In Ohio,to even touch one you must be licensed by the State. The class is three days of mustly code and some installation, it is a good start.

NJ:
As said above the source of your FA & BA materials probably is the best source for info and TRAINING. Mfg usually like to have qualified techs work on their equipment (no offense intended) MFG training is usually 'cheap' or free.

And, as you're here in NJ, the Board may be able to provide sources also; have your boss (guy with Lic.) call.

I don't know where you're at in "South Jersey"...the County VoTech I teach in has a Burg Alarm nite class; possibly some FA also. It's 13 weeks, 1 nite a week, costs under $150 plus book(s). Union County VoTech, Scotch Plains, NJ. Check with your local County VoTech as they may offer same.
