[This message has been edited by RichardTatem (edited 10-21-2005).]

Ah, well, that cleared that up.

How would you wire a 4.0 kwa 240 volt hot tub?
With conductors.
-Peter
First i would check to see if it was a listed tub.
Then i would check the service for load, and loadcenter conditions.
Then i would get a $500 down payment before i started any work.
Richard,
We try not to give step by step instructions to avoid any liability problems.
Please understand,
Thank you,
LK

So, uh, what's a hen weigh?
Have we figured out what a kilowattamp is yet?
A watt is I x I x R = I squared time R.
A wattamp is I x I x R x I = I cubed times R, or (I**3)*R. This quantity is often used to rate hoy tubs.
Given... 4.0kwa or 4000 watt amps
249 volts as per subject title
4000 watt/amps divided by 249 volts is 16.064.
a watt amp would be amps times volts times amps so...
16.064x249x16.064=64254.97 or just under 65 kvaa at 249 volts.
I recomend using atleast 4/0 to handle that load.
Doh!!
Here's how I wired my hot tub:
1) bought the tub
2) Opened a beer
3) watched electrician work :-)
Seriously, though....You want someone to use pipe, and not Romex, SE, etc.
You want a disconnect where you can find it.
If outside, you want the wires in pipe, buried DEEP.
You want everything GFI protected....well before it gets to the tub.
Finally, you want to keep ALL other electric stuff well away from the tub. Assume that everything you want to put within, say, 10 ft. of the tub is a bad idea, and don't do it. No paddle fan, no stereo, no yard lights, etc.
A hen weighs approximately a bicyle because a vest has no sleeves.
You can identify one easily because they are a kind of brown redish.
This sounds like a discussion for the hoi polloi...
Redsy, do you walk to work or carry your lunch?
Larry,
I drive my lunch to work.
Have you ever eaten a brown redish?
Boy you guys are a bunch of comedians!
I am surprised nobody said the obvious reply.
How do you wire a hot tub? Very Carefully!
What's a lunch??
Not in the code book, are they required?
Dnk....
harold,
I just came back from 8 hours of Hot Tub, and Pools CEU Class, think i should include the transcript in this post? or should Richard sign up for his CEU's
As long as Richard knows that we are not making fun of him and we are just laughing at ourselves, then I think we should all sign up for more CEU's. It is funny, when NJ first started making EC's go for CEU's, you should hear the old timers complain. They use to say that, "I have my license, why do I need more classes?" or "Let the new guys get more education. I don't need it." or one of my favorites. "I read the code book once and got my license. Why should I look in the code book again?" As a matter of point. NJ is making the EC's go for 34 or 35 hours of CEU's before they can renew their Lic. John knows better than me because he still uses his EC's lic. and I just inspect only.
Harold,
Yes, John has to do it twice, Once for EC and again for Inspector, he should only need his inspector CEU's to renew his EC Lic. What are they thinking at DCA.
CEU's are a good thing, but there is some need for improvement on required hours, and course selection, the classes i have attended so far, are nothing more then repeat of code content, just like repeating the 10 hours over, and over.
"Have you ever eaten a brown redish?"
No, but I've eaten a horse radish
Have you ever eaten a brown redish?"
... Come to think of it,..I get a brown redish everytime the wife makes her prized meatloaf.. I hate it,I won't eat it,..and the the very next night, she "re-dishes" it to me again...(snare roll).. yccck!!
