Can 3way switch travelers run through fluorescent fixtures. I have always been under the impression that the only wiring that can be in fixtures is the wiring that powers the row of fixtures and the travelers must be in a seperate raceway. THANKS HYPRESS

Hypress, I'm not sure if this addresses your question, but you might check out 410.31 and 410.32 and see if these article sections may apply.

In reality, the travelers are extensions of the switch leg.

Does this 3way loop control the fixtures in question? If so I say it is OK.
I wouldn't allow conductors from another circuit.

As Roger pointed out 410.31 and 410.32 are the requirements

If the fixture is listed as a raceway (410.31) which most fluorescent strips are you may treat it as just another raceway.

You want to run a 480 volt 100 amp 3 phase feeder through raceway listed fixtures you may.

If the fixture is not listed as a raceway then we have to follow 410.32.

Quote
410.32 Wiring Supplying Luminaires (Fixtures) Connected Together.
Luminaires (fixtures) designed for end-to-end connection to form a continuous assembly, or luminaires (fixtures) connected together by recognized wiring methods, shall be permitted to contain the conductors of a 2-wire branch circuit, or one multiwire branch circuit, supplying the connected luminaires (fixtures) and need not be listed as a raceway. One additional 2-wire branch circuit separately supplying one or more of the connected luminaires (fixtures) shall also be permitted.

The travelers are part of the lighting circuit supplying the fixture.

How many are listed as a raceway?

Glenn, many industrial strip fixtures are. They are even refered to
as "channel/wireway" in the information that accompanies them.

i will like to pass the word with the raceway in flourscent lumiaires you have to be carefull with wire fill espcally near the ballast area they do kick up a bit of heat.

just make sure you read 410.32 very carefully there and watch out the space requirements there

Merci, Marc

Thanks Roger, I guess I never saw them used that way.
It sure reinforces "qualified personel only".

It would be easy to assume that if you tripped the breaker and the lights went out that the conductors inside would be deenergized. Horrible scenarios abound from there.
