I bought a Greenlee 2011/00521 Circuit Seeker on EBAY. I'm having trouble using it. I'm not even sure if it is working correctly. Its instructions are missing.
Can anyone give me a few pointers on how to use this thing. If I could be sure it's working correct I would gladly purchase a new video, or by a copy from someone.

Have you condsidered contacting Greenlee for a replacement manual?

If it is anything like my Pascar/Amprobe type, you would have a Transmittier - which gets connected to the Circuit to be traced, and a Receiver - which is placed on the Circuit Breaker, or wire, in a Panel.

Transmittier requires Power from either the Circuit in question ("Live" testing), or a Battery (Ringing Out "Dead" stuff).

Transmitter should pulse a tone on the Circuit, which is picked up by the Receiver at the Panel.

Place Receiver directly on the breaker or wire, at a "Right Angle" to the current flow.
The "Pick-up" end should be apparent, so place it against the breaker/wire, making sure the receiver is positioned so the widest part of the pick-up is at a 90° angle to the direction of flow.

Hunt around until you get a strong and stable signal, then throw the breaker off.

Best to test non critical circuits for a few hours / days first, so you can get the feel for the tester. Takes a little time to get used to how they work under different conditions, so you can accurately find the right circuit.

I first used this without instructions and could not figure it out. A quick email to greenlee had me the instructions.

Quick start tips.

Plug in the transmitter.

Find panel in high mode, then turn it to low mode, hold the reciever sideways and run down all the breakers once. You must run down all the breakers!!!! Do it toward the outside of the breaker away from the handle.

You may see it hit on more than one, do not worry.

Now go down all the breakers a second time. Make sure you do all of them!!!!
It should hit on one. Go back to that one to confirm.

Do not under any conditions hit the buttons to reset it while doing the above.

The above assumes the power is on.

The reason for all this is it has an automatic gain control and constantly compares each signal it gets until it finds the strongest.

If you have multiple panels hit on high mode its best to run down in every panel. Do not hit the reset button between panels!!!!

Disclaimer, I do not work for greenlee, the above is a much shortened version of the offical instructions, do not flip off any breakers without warning people, blah blah.

I have one of these and mine came with a video.
One thing that the video said to do is to connect one wire of the transmitter to a phase and the other to ground not another phase wire. They said that the prefered connection to ground is a water pipe, building steel, a steel door frame or some other metal ground. This keeps the signal from getting interferance and you getting a false reading.

When I got mine I didn't read the instructions or watch the video. I just hooked it up to 2 phases and tried to trace out a panel. I got a wrong reading and shut off the wrong breaker.
Since connecting it as they suggested, it has not failed me yet.
