Anyone have any ideas one having a two gang L5-20? Can't find a 4S, 4 11/16th, or 2-gang plate, that will take two L5-20's.

What is an L5-20?

Scott L5-20

Locking 5 = 120 volt 20 amp.

He is actually asking about an L5-20R, which is a 120 volt 20 amp twist lock receptacle.

For me it is better to order parts like this by NEMA numbers rather than specific part numbers.

A typical straight blade duplex is a NEMA 5-15R (15 amp) or a NEMA 5-20R (20 amp)

E57 you should be able to get a standard two gang cover for two L5-20s I do not believe you will find them for 4" or 4 11/16" sq boxes.

I found this NEMA chart for those interested.

e57, you will not find that setup for 4 sq or 4 11/16. Hubbell makes a plate S320. It is a three gang plate. The center is blank with an L5-20R hole in the 1st gang and 3rd gang. It is smooth stainless steel. This is the only way I know you can put 2 L5-20R in the same box. Hope this helps.

I figured it was a device.

Appleton makes a cover for a 4sq. It has crushed corners and (2) 1-13/32" single receptacle holes. The part# is 8364. Steel City(T&B) also makes a 4 sq. crushed corner cover part # RS-10.

Fred, I believe the covers you mentioned are for L5-15R receptacles. L5-15R = 1.38", L5-20R = 1.56" If I do my math correctly 1 13/32" = 1.40" so an L5-20R will not fit in that cover.

Yep, Al, you hit the nail on the head there!

Our PM made the mistake of telling someone we could, sometimes I'd like to carry a sock for this purpose. Customer wants 2 L5-20's at 30 or so locations. So they can plug in plug tap strips. An idea I'm not hip on. However the exposed concrete columns they want these all on barely have enough room for a 4S.

Al, with you last suggestion, the s320, I spotted on the catalog pages past it that Hubbell makes custom plates. Maybe get some made. Now after thinking about it, there must be a reason that they don't make one. I have seen in the past, and one from recent memory, where people have K/O'ed a steel plate for these larger bosses. (A practice I'm also not hip on, especially needing 30 or so of them. )But in smaller items, like a duplex, and a L5-30. I wonder if 2 - L5-20's ganged that close together would result in the cord caps being too close? If not I'd be happy to order some up. I'm gonna have do research that or change some boxes to 3 gangs with flat rings, and order plates so I can use the S320.

Anyway Gents Muchas Gracias!

You might consider purchasing 4 11/16 blank raised covers then having a local metal shop drill them out for the receptacles. You could probably drill them yourself but for 30 I think having a shop do this would be much easier and cost effective. Years ago one of my supply houses had raised GFCI receptacle covers made from blanks before the manufactures started making them.

Curt, thats a good idea, I happen to know of a place that may have a punch die for them. I better call 'em tomorrow.

Same place will often re-make panel covers and other metal items for me. And I know they have a duplex punch.
