Is there a special switch or circuit breaker made and/or required for HID lighting or is a standard 20 Amp switch all that is necessary? I have 700 va of Metal Halide and 400 va of Mercury Vapor on a dedicated 20 amp circuit.

Coastal, see 240.83(D) concerning the breaker.

As fas as a snap switch, it would only be necessary to be rated for the load.

From what I gather from 240.83, if the lighting loads go through a lighting contactor or other switch, the HID or SWD breakers are not nessasary.
Is this correct?

that is the way I read it too.

Also notice that there is no other mention of a "listed breaker" in 240. [Linked Image]
