I'm bidding a job to re-wire a house that is being remodeled. The house is a raised house (3' off the ground), board and plaster walls. It would be really easy for me to run my wire under the house and staple them to the floor joist then fish my power up to the wall switch, then fish my switch leg into the ceiling (which is fairly shallow). Would this be a common practice? I haven't seen any codes that would not allow this. If I missed it would someone pleas point me to the correct code that addresses this.

I don't know about being common, but it would be legal. Unfinished basements cannot have the cables stapled to the underside. Crawlspaces are permitted to secured the NM to the underside. Check out 334.15 for the rules.

early sorry I was looking at a 1999 code book. I did however find it in a 2002 code book.

Bert66...if under the house your talking about is exposed to the elements than I would say not to use romex. Romex is suitable for dry locations only.
