/That subject makes me think of Dr. Nick on the Simpsons/

After "lurking" here for some time, I've finally joined in! I must compliment you all as this is one extremely informative (and entertaining) forum!

A little background: I've been working with things electrical since I was about five (none of my dad's power tools escaped my wrath!). I have worked at apprentice level for a few electricians (some of whom felt I had more journeyman level knowledge than their own journeymen, wow) and currently work in the cinema business. I build, rebuild, install and repair film projectors, sound equipment and, to a lesser degree, lighting systems. That work frequently involves spec'ing or working in subpanels (which are usually amongst the worst I've seen).

The highest voltage I've had live encounters with is 12kv distribution (thanks to a friend in a major California utility) and the HV ignitors for cinema Xenon arc lamps which run anywhere from 10-25kv pulsed. (And they hurt when they hit!)

As I encounter strange or dangerous things in the biz I'll try to get some pictures to post for discussion. I am awaiting my next trip to an OLD theatre here in So Cal to get you pics of the original Frank Adams "Major System" switchgear which is still in use!
