Way back this happend to a co-worker. Basically all his hand tools.
Let's just say he was very pissed but was put into a much better mood when he replaced "all" his tools with new stuff off the bosses insurance.

Unfortunately, yes... only my stuff wasn't insured <sigh>.

Hi there Kelley,
Welcome to ECN!. [Linked Image]
Well, it's been a few years since I've had any tools pinched, but even so it's darn inconvenient to say the least.
Sure, having insurance pay for new tools is cool, but the thing I don't like about it is, you have to get used to a new lot of tools.
Over the years, your hands mould into tools and even if you bought your tools 10 years ago, try and find a decent equivalent, these days.
Chances are it isn't made in the same place as your last lot. [Linked Image]

Glad you had insurance on them...

Still blows!

Do a little seach at the link near post reply ther on stolen tools, some of the past topics covered some great ideas for marking, hunting down and killing of the ignoble thief.

I have had it happen too many times, once is enough!

Working in Washington DC, I've had tools stolen at least a dozen times. Once, they got a VERY expensive hammer drill out of my locked van, parked right in front of the Secret Service Headquarters in broad daylight. Nobody saw a thing of course. This is why I never buy tools from those guys that come around the job site selling a $250 drill for $20. I know where it came from and I don't want to encourage the a*#holes to do it again.

Yea had my trailer stolen from inside a locked fenced in area at a job site. Got the trailer back but it was domaged and stripped of the tools and materials in it. estimated loss was over 10K. Insurance covered only 5K for tools only. No insurance on the materials, that is on the GC's builders risk. The GC does not want to file so is going to get a bill for the materials. His choice on weather his insurance or he pays for it. If he does not pay it will go to the judge.
Will have to increaase my insurance [Linked Image]

"those guys that come around the job site selling a $250 drill for $20" ...Get either are dumb enough get held there for the cops or chased off by an angry man with a 1/2" bender, and I still call the cops.
