Imagine all kitchen counter receptacles installed under the upper cabinets.
If the cabinet maker makes 1.5" lip under the cabimets and all the electrical wiring and boxes are hidden in that pocket/cavity. This way all the kitchen counter backsplash is receptacle free.

What do you guys think about this?

What about under-cabinet lighting? While I think the extended cabinet lip would make it very easy to moun virtually any light source as task lighting, I usually mount outlets above the counter backsplash (in the wall itself) to avoid hassles with potential remodeling of cabinetry (?) in the future. Making the required small appliance wiring a part of the "removable" cabinets asks for difficulties down the road, IMHO.

Also, when receptacles are hidden from direct view it's more difficult to insert plugs, and I would think it would be more tempting for H/O's to do the "grab and jerk" on the appliance cords rather than grasping the plug body itself.

Sounds reasonable to me. Another method would be plugmold along the underside of the cabinets.
