Started to rough a new house yesterday,(friggin cold, about 10 outside & 5 inside)anyhow, the customer wants the bath exh fan/lights in the tub/shower units! I will gfi them. Anyone else get this crazy request? Is there any vapor proof exh fans?

Not a crazy request at all. The purpose, building code wise, is for water vapor, not odors. In upper end houses, we put the exhaust fan in the shower all the time. Just do like you said and GFI protect them.

Just make sure you check to see that the fan/light combination is UL listed for that paticular application not all bath fans are.

If you think of it, let me know what brand of exhaust fan you go with. I am doing a job next month where a customer wants the same thing in a new bathroom and I have to figure out where I am going to port the exhaust). I 2nd your "friggin cold" comment, as I worked with the POCO last week on a service install and I was up on a roof with -20F winds... BRRRRRRR!

I've installed bath fans in showers before too. The one we used was a Broan S-series. S-110 or S-80. I think it makes for nice installation. Get one with a light and you don't need a shower can.

It says right on the housing that it is UL Listed for use over bathtubs and showers when connected to a GFCI-protected branch circuit.

I used to use the Nutone QT series fans but have switched to the LS series. A 100 cfm is around 1.5 sones vs 3.5 for the QT series and about 10-15 dollars more. It is listed for over shower and tubs with GFI protection.
