Does anyone know of any share-ware auto cad programs?
I just need something simple.

I used a simple DOS one called Draft Choice II,
Fom Trius software. It is shareware. Otherwise,
I generally use MSPaint.

I do not know of any Freeware CAD apps, and have only seen one CAD Shareware evaluation (back in 1995, so most likely it's very hard to find ...).

While not being a Freeware / Shareware app, the Turbosketch and Turbocad apps are inexpensive - $20 to $100.
They are useful, and have a "semi-tough" learning curve.

Visio is also useful for CAD work, but not sure of the price.

Last time I was at Fry's (Electronics), saw AutoSketch for like $99.95 on what I think was a full version.
AutoSketch is made by AutoDesk - the same people who make the well known application "AutoCAD". From what I have heard, it works well for many Electrical drawing tasks.

You could also look into Deltacad .They have a free demo version available and the program cost is $39.95.

For drawing electrical shemes I have no idea. Someone might have use for a 3-D CAD software. ProDesktop Express is freeware and sufficiently advanced to be used professionally. It's a bit slow and has a couple of bugs, so if you can't accept a software that hangs a couple of times a day, this isn't for you. Download here or check out www.ptc.com for more info.

If you want to go for the real thing, Pro/Engineer is "only" $6000, not including the components you need.

Hi Scott! I have enjoyed using DeltaCAD, but my needs are very limited. I have VERY little experiance with CAD, so anything that draws better than Microsoft paint makes me smile! I wish I could tell you more, but I don't have any basis for comparison. They have a free 45 day trial, and even at dial-up the download went quick. I think it was worth it.

I have just been drawing things like a service lateral conduit going to a CT, over to a disco and parrellel to an MDP. Pretty straight forward stuff.

Let me know the registration price, if you plan to keep it past the 45 evaluation period, and if the registration "De-Cripples" any functions in the application - or if they offer an upgraded / better version with registration.

I sure have a bunch of silly questions, huh?, but that's what happens when you decide to become an EE/PC Nerd/Electronics Nerd/Science Nerd/(fill-in appropriate nomeclature here).

'Ya, MS Paint works OK for about 2 weeks, to do "Basic CAD-Like" work; but by the time that 15th day comes around, it is time for something else-ASAP!!! (MS Paint just becomes too frustrating and limited).
