Hopefully this post has been placed in the correct category.

I've 26 years experience in electronics as a tech and instructor, and am interested in becoming an electrical contractor in the state of California. The plethora of texts for the trade leave me wondering which are essential. I've a tentative list, but would like to hear the recommendations of professionals since the texts are costly and I wish to avoid unnecessary duplication.

In this area they will usually give you a years credit. Then you can finish the additional three years of apprenticeship training to complete the National Apprenticeship Program, this will qualify as an electrician. Then uaually one or two years of working in the field, and then apply for the contractor exam in your state.
From electronic to electrical a lot to learn in just four years. Good Luck.

Mind you, if you can judge the Quiescent Current of a certain Transistor, by Knowledge, you'll do OK as a Sparky!.
