OK, let's get it over with [Linked Image]

My power was out from 4:10 PM Thursday through 12:00 AM Friday.

My first act, after making sure the computers were off (the UPS doesn't last more than about 10 minutes) was to shut the main breaker.

I was one of few people with phone service in my area. My DSL line is copper. My wife's home-office fax line apparently is over fiber--it was out of service. (No dial tone, and when I called it, I got a ring and then a fast busy.) I'll keep my copper, thank you.

Well, you beat me to it! I was just chatting with Bill about this and we both agreed that there's a lot to be said for a good old-fashioned copper loop with batteries at the central office.

I was browsing the news reports on the CBS website this morning, and it looks as though the outage was very widespread.

I told Bill not to connect that new high-power server without calling the PoCo first..... [Linked Image]
