Hi All,
Have to go trouble shoot a pool light Thursday. Customer said he thought it was burned out so he relamped but still doesn't work. He said GFCI is not tripped. I haven't worked on any pool lights so I wanted to get some ideas to be armed with before I go. So far I am thinking, bad lamp or bad contact in lampholder or open neutral. I am thinking deteriorated wiring in the conduit would trip GFCI, would it not? Assuming the GFCI is working. If anyone who works on pool lights has any tips I would appreciate hearing them. By the way, it sounds like a dry-niche.

If there is a deck box(?) take a look to see if the wiring in it is good, loose ,corroded etc... Remember the deck box has to be listed.

Thanks Pierre, The job got changed to Monday. I did some studying up and it looks like my fear of the unknown was unfounded. I'll let you know what it turns out to be.

It was only a bad lamp! I was all prepared to ring out circuits and all. And it was a wet niche. Pretty simple stuff. Checked all the grounding/bonding before I left. Thanks for your suggestions.

I worked for this guy one time who used to say "spread the tools". We would go on the job and spread the tools, I always thought it was funny. He is retired and still comes to the meetings.BTW- he was one of the best electricans I ever worked with. We probably would have "spread the tools" for a bulb too.
