I am wodering what you guys charge to rewire a house with existing walls(sheetrocked) in different parts of the country? Do you charge by the SQFT, by the hour or per connection point?

By the hour. ( Unless the customer would agree to a Ridiculously High Quote } [Linked Image]

Luckily we don't get into this type of work, but if we did I would come up with a set price bid for each job based on what was needed.

Time and Material.

Too many unknowns involved in rewiring a finished structure to do it by the opening or ft^2, unless you bid it WAY high to cover yourself.

Time and Materials would be the way to go here...

T & M, but make a deal with them if it's a lot of work and it will price you out of the job. I will usally give them a rough estimate and tell them upfront that you will come to them if and when you think you are going to go over the estimate by alot. Be upfront about your charges. Give them a best and worst case price. You will never lose with T&M but the coustomer sure can.
