Not only did the holiday weekend suck weather wise, it continues to suck and looks like it is going to suck for the foreseeable future. Rain and clouds everyday now, high temps in the 60s but mostly in the 50s. My garden is nothing but mud and weeds.Very depressing after the worst winter in recent memory.

I took my girls, two and four to a beach in New Hampshire on Sunday and amazingly did not get rained on and even though it was to cold for swimming the girls had a blast in the sand.

Then to a nice hotel where we could take them swimming.

They did not even notice the unbelievably lousy weather, that made my wife and I forget about it too. [Linked Image]

No chance for a BBQ, but some Maine lobster made up for it.

Now if only I could keep that good attitude when I am standing in 12" of mud doing site work in the mud pit of a construction site I have been working on. [Linked Image]

Bill/Walrus:
Send some of your weather down here to SE Texas! I worked an EMS call on Memorial Day where a guy dislocated his ankle when he stepped into a large crack in the ground. Almost did the same thing myself while moving him to the ambulance.

The BBQ tasted even better after I got back home from the call... [Linked Image]

I'm glad to hear that some people had a dry day. [Linked Image]

iwire,

I know what the mud's about up there, I've got Family up in NH for the past 15 yrs or so. They're in New Ipswich & Wilton. Where was the Beach that you went to?

7:30 Saturday night we get the call. A 6000HP motor has burned up at an aluminum rolling mill. We had it replaced and running at 5:30 Monday. Can you guess how my weekend was spent? [Linked Image]

No barbecue, but they did buy us pizza [Linked Image]

Bill, Hampton Beach and Portsmouth for the Hotel.

The mud I am in is Worcester MA. I can be walking on top of the ground fine and the next step I am up over my boots, the inside of my truck looks like someone shoveled dirt in to it. [Linked Image]

Jb, where did they get a 6000 HP motor so fast, I do not think Grainger's stocks that. [Linked Image]

And if it was air freighted in I would like to see that bill. [Linked Image]

iwire,

Thankfully we had a spare on site. The plant used to not keep a spare but a similiar breakdown 15 years ago caused almost 6 weeks of down time. This story has an almost legendary quality and is commonly referred to as "forty days and forty nights." Needless to say, after experiencing that fiasco, the company decided to keep a spare around.

Air freight? I would hate to see that too. The armature alone weighs over 160,000# and the housing and stator weighs in at about 145,000#. If they couldn't be repaired, they would make great "bunker busters" [Linked Image]

Come on down! No food left, but plenty of dry firewood to cook up some more. [Linked Image]: We are 10 inches behind on rain already this year. Have to opt for the 35,000 gallon cement pond in the back yard.Water temp is 84F.

It seems as though spring has finally sprung here in England.

It was clear & sunny yesterday, temperature up into the 70s, and kids having a good time on the beach. Looks reasonable for the next few days

Donnie,

You must have a heated 'cement pond' right?

Paul,

Our forecast looks about the same for this weekend. [Linked Image]

Anyone,

Is there a real difference between partly cloudy and partly sunny?
Or is that just an optimist/pessimist thing?

Bill,
Closest I got to a BBQ, was a stinking old rubbish tip fire, that the guy at the tip "forgot" to report until an hour and a half after it started.
All of us guys at the fire, missed the NPC Rugby Final!!, because of this dumb-*@$%.
(BTW, the NPC Final is the Rugby equivalent in NZ, to SuperBowl in the US.
While he was at home watching rugby and drinking beer, we were turning over rubbish and dampening it down.
We were WILD!!.

Hey Yesterday in coastal Maine wasn't bad. The sun was almost out and it was almost 70, the showers we got last night, keeps me out of the garden for another weekend as tomorrow is supposed to be a gully washer. Standing water in my garden is really depressing me.
Posted By: txsparky Re: So, how was the Barbeque? - 05/31/03 04:41 PM
Bill,
Only heated by sunshine.
We've had a heat index here of 98F the last coupla days.
Posted By: Bill Addiss Re: So, how was the Barbeque? - 05/31/03 06:33 PM
Donnie,

Wow!
How Hot does the pool water get down there?

I don't think Pools up here even reach 84F by the end of the Summer!
My neighbor's is about 68F now.

By August it will hover around 90. Have to stay in the 10 foot end to try to find a cool spot. Fortunately I've got alot afternoon shade to help cool things down.

I had a great weekend until the time we HAD to leave for the mother-in-laws, Oh god what a mess, all of my wifes relatives were there. We spent 6 horrifying, agonizing, boring hours watching home movies, movies that were minimum 50 years " Oh gee look theres Aunt Bhea, " and worst of all NO Adult beverage, too many kids there I guess.
I could not wait for that day to end, and I am not going back. (period).

Well thats what I said the last time.
