I will be running a considerable amount of type MC lite cable (all inside walls) in a new restaurant. In the past I've always used one hole straps to secure it to the wood studs. I was thinking how much easier it would be to use wire stables and, in some places, cable ties. Anyone else done this?

We always use 9/16" staples for this type of work.

I don't know of anything against it. I've used them. If you cock them at a slight angle to match the corrugation they hold pretty well. If you know the brand you might be using you can check with them and your local AHJ to see if there are any objections.

I did a search and came up with one Brands' info > Minerallac
They have their 1-1/4 x 9/16 staple being suitable for "3-Conductor (#10, #12, #14) Romex®, BX, MC and other cable"

Technically, any listed ( and some non listed) strapping is allowed. As long as you meet your spacing requirements, you shouldn't fail inspection. By the way, the listed and non listed I was talking about is regular RX staples. Those old wire staples isn't ( I don't believe) UL listed for wire support. Otherwise, you an use any approved method for securing MC wire.

Definately talk to your inspector. Depends on municipality. Some go as far to require only ul listed straps[Town in texas]

I once worked for a guy who shot the dice on about 3000 ty-wraps to strap re-lock lighting. He got away with it because the inspector never looked, and that is the only reason. So much safer to ask first.

The only issue that I have could be IF the cable is "hit" and deformed/damaged by an errant blow of a hammer. "MC Lite" is an aluminum sheath, correct? A quick check with the CABLE mfg, as to there input on staples would answer the inquiry directly. IF the mfg accepts "staples" as an approved means of securing the cable, then the AHJ should/must accept it.

Cable ties (ty-wraps) are an approved means of support in '02 NEC

Personally, we use 1 hole MC straps most of the time, habit I guess.
