I got your email address from the Electrical-Contractor forum and was wondering if you may have some advice/tips about what a South African electrician (my fiance) would have to do to work as an electrician in California. He has his electrical license in South Africa, but we were wondering whether or not it would be recognized here? Or if he would have to complete an apprenticeship all over again...or if he would just have to pass the certification exam...or maybe he may not have to do any of those things!!

Anyone have any advice?

Hi there Natalie,
I think that all that is required is that your fiancee, pass the local exams.
It really depends on what type of ticket he had in South Africa, was it an Installation
Electrician Licence?.
I can't be sure, I'm from New Zealand,
some one here should be able to help you!!.
Thanks for contacting ECN, best of luck in the US!. [Linked Image]
