just looking for some good tips on how to chase open wiring down. i inherited an abandond (sp) new house wiring job that the origional sparkey started. all wiring is run to boxes and to the panels no pigtails, nothing made up in any box except the neutrals and gnd wires are terminated in the 2-40 ckt panels. no branch ckts are marked no idea where ckts go. i did locate 2 ckts to be used for temp pwr. just tied the hot and neut together and did a continuity check. took about an hour and a half. any better ideas? i'm gonna try the phones next. i'm doing this solo and i'm doing it $ by the hour. thx for any suggs. ken m

If the wiring is not energized, I would suggest a tone and probe kit like used by the low voltage guys. Not that expensive and can be used for lots of different applications.

Or there are tracers that can be used on either energized or unenergized wiring. Check out the Ideal or Greenlee products at your local distibutor.
ken...here a tip..since all circuits a dead you may want to try using a tone generator.this will help you find the home runs.works great.and i know it for phone wiring. here a link to check out.
