I just got the following Email that I wanted to share with you all.

Quote
REQUEST FOR URGENT /CONFIDENTIAL BUSINESSRELATIONSHIP.

I am the Financial Controller, National Electric Power Authority (NEPA) here in Lagos, Nigeria. I am seeking for assistance of a reliable foreigner through whom I can transfer the sum of US$38,600.00(Thirty-Eight Million, Six Hundred Thousand U. S. Dollars) which arose from the deliberate over-inflated contract value of the general expansion of the Kanji Dam Thermal Station on behalf of National Electric Power Authority (NEPA) for increased energy generation to Nigeria and some other Western African Countries.

The present government of chief Olusegun Obasanjo through the chairman contract award committee National Electric Power Authority awarded the contract to an expatriate firm with the consideration of 10% commission agreement on the total contract value. The contract has been completed
and the contractor has long been paid, we are left with this US$38,600,000.00 being our own share that is remaining in the federal government account. The
current favorable political / economic climate in the country now presented an opportunity for this money to be transferred out of the country. My contact in the federal ministry of finance have given me a go ahead advice to begin the process of the remittance, hence I have set in motion the machinery for the take off of this transaction and further actions will commence immediately I hear from you.

At the conclusion of the transfer into your nominated account, 20% of this sum would be for you, 5% would be used to reimburse all expenses made during the processing of the transfer by both parties, while 75% is for me. The nature of your business is not particular relevant for the transaction. All I require is your willingness to co-operate and assurance that my own share will be given to me when this money is transferred into your account. All necessary precautions have been taken to ensure a no risk situation on the sides of both parties and it is believed that this conclusion of this transaction will not last more than 14 working days.

Since I have no knowledge of business, my plan is to invest this money into real estate, stock and I can also invest in some other profitable business in your country based on your advice because many of my years has been spent as civil servant, and I may likely resign from government service to private business after this money is transferred into your account. Please if this proposal is acceptable to you, or if you have any questions feel free to contact me on the above e-mail address, I will oblige you with further information and please I need your private telephone/fax numbers, for easy and confidential communication.

Best regards,

Iysa Ade Bello
What do you think?
Are these guys getting more inventive or what?

Bill

Yeah Bill they get very inventive. When I come into work on Mondays I have about 15 of those "Once in a lifetime deals". I just forward them to the treasury department. Joe

Why my goodness, Bill...we're looking at the next multi-millionaire!! How fortunate you are indeed [Linked Image].

I wish I had a dime for every piece of CRAP (putting it very mildly) like this which I receive, virtually, every day [Linked Image]. Yours is rather unusual in two respects - Apparently no one died in order for you to receive this "remarkable" offer, and it doesn't seem to be related in some manner to nigerian oil.

I guess even crooks can tire of using the same old MO day after day...

A word to the wise...as a general rule I never even open any of this garbage, for fear that one may contain a virus.

Ah, so that's where all that money that was supposed to be used for electrification of Nigeria went! No wonder half the country still lacks power...
Posted By: Bill Addiss Re: Is This My LUCKY DAY, or What? - 03/12/03 07:07 PM
So, .... Are you guys in?
I've gotten about 10 of these already today so I know they are anxious to deal, should I hold out for 25%?

This is the first one I can remember that was Electrical related I wonder if they are using filtered email lists to target their audience now. Isn't technology great?

Since when is $38,600.00 equal to "(Thirty-Eight Million, Six Hundred Thousand U. S. Dollars)" [Linked Image]

They must use metric Kilo-Dollars in Nigeria.

Hmm... I'm sure any one of us would be happy if we over-quoted a job and just happened to end up with a spare $38 million at the end of it! [Linked Image]

I seem to get one or two of these things every couple of days at the moment. Most of them are a former prince/prime minister/etc. who has been killed during civil war or rebellion. I was quite surprised to get one recently where it happened to be just the president of a bank who had been killed in an auto accident. Maybe they thought that sounded more credible against all the others.

Some of these people really should check their facts though. Some of this junk I receive is so full of inconsistencies that I wouldn't think anybody would believe it. One born every minute, I suppose.

It does indeed seem as though some of the scammers have decided they can do it without some influencial person getting "killed."
I received this one in my mail this morning:

NIGERIAN NATIONAL PETROLEUM CORPORATION
CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS
LAGOS-NIGERIA.

STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL.

FROM THE DESK OF INNOCENT IHEOMA.

DEAR SIR,

REQUEST FOR URGENT CONFIDENTIAL BUSINESS

After due deliberation with my colleagues, I decided
to forward this proposal to you. We want a reliable person who could assist us to transfer the sum of Twleve Million United States Dollars (US$12,000,000.00) into his/her account.

This fund resulted from an over-invoced bill from contract awarded by us under the budget allocation to my ministry and the bill was approved for payment by the concerned ministries. The contract has been executed, commissioned and the contractor was paid
the actual cost of the contract. we are left with the balance of US$12,000,000.00 as part of the over-invoiced amount, which we have deliberately over estimated for our own. I am contacting you to be our custodan for this fund.

on the receipt of this, we have agreed on this below sharing ratio:-
1. 25% for you as the account owner.
2. 70% for us
3. 5% for Tax, as may required by our Government and your government.

As you may want to know and to make you less curious,
I got your address from adverts, in business
directory that protrayed your establishment in good light. I am the Secretary of the Contract Awarding Committee (C.A.C)of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation(NNPC).

This transaction is very much free from all sorts of RISK and TROUBLE from my Government. We have been exercising patience for this great business opportunity for so long and to most of us, this is a life time opportunity we cannot affford to miss.

To get this fund paid into your account, we have to present a Payment Invoice from a foreign establishment like yours. With this invoice, we will seek approval to transfer the fund within 14 banking days through
the APEX BANK (C.B.N) to your designatd Bank Account. I and one of my colleague involved in this deal will come to your country to arrange for our share upon the confirmation from you that the money has been credited into your nominated Bank Account.

Consequently, upon your acceptance of my proposal kindly confirm you interest by revert email to me through my email
indicating your sincereity and serious interest to accomplished this business opoortunity with me, then the procedures of your operation is needed due to the fact that this deal is not for child's play.

It will surprise you why we choose you and trust you for this transaction. Yes, we believe that good friends can be discovered and business like this cannot be realized without trust. Be further informed that everyone's interest and security had been considered before you were contacted. So be rest assured and fell free to go into this transaction with us.

With all pleasure, we are looking forward for your urgent response but endeavor to maintain the utmost confidentiality required.

Thank you and God Bless.

Best regards,

INNOCENT IHEOMA.

I'm so glad they checked me out so carefully. I must have been so naive to think that they just sent this to every e-mail address they could find. [Linked Image]

5% for tax? I don't know about tax in Nigeria, but I could assure him that if I put through an official invoice for $12m or its equivalent that the money-grabbing pack of vultures in Whitehall would demand a LOT more than 5%!

And wouldn't you think that the secretary of a big corporation wud be abel to spelll a litl bettr? [Linked Image]

I get these in the mail too. I have often thought about going to the feds or the Nigerian Government and offering to cooperate in a sting operation. The condition is that I would get to keep the INTEREST on all the money while it was in my acct until the perps were convicted of fraud (this might take years if they have a legal system like ours. Of course if they just drag the guy out and shoot him, my interest will be less!
