After 50+ New England winters ,I have been giving a lot of thought to giving up a business that took 20+ years of work to build and starting over in Florida. I would like to hear from anyone who has tried this move. I,m thinking of doing only repair work or small residential jobs. Tired of dealing with GC that want work done on a last minute schedule and then having to chase my money. How difficult will it be to get a license to do this kind of work?

Arthur..

I spent 20 years in the business down in Fla. Just recently moved to PA.

What part of Fla are you going to?

Arthur,

This time of year I'm thinking the same thing!

I usually go down to Orlando area for some time in Feb. A nice break from Winter.

Arthur, As far as GC's or any customer wanting things done at the last minute, my brother works in the central FL area and when we talk, that part of the industry is the same.

As far as service work this time of the year, he says it can take an hour to drive 20 miles to a job, due to traffic congestion.

As far as licensing, I know FL reciprocates with some states in the unlimited catagory.

Worked for an older couple who were moving to Florida for their retirement years. The next year I saw them again. They moved back cause it was too darn HOT!!!

Hi Arthur. Nice to see a fellow Rhode Islander here (even though I moved away), once a Rhode Islander, always a Rhode Islander, we're a funny bunch [Linked Image]. It's 4 degrees here in Providence right now, and the only thing I want to do is get out of the cold!!

By the way, what's the name of your company?

Peter
