The list of the code making panel members includes the name, state, the industry they represent and a letter code
[U], [M], [IM], [UT], [RT]

What do these mean?

Look on the last page of the code, right in front of the proposal stuff M is manufacturer, U is user etc

M Manufacturers: makers of products affected by the NECŪ
U Users: users of the NECŪ
I/M Installers/Maintainers: installers/maintainers of systems covered by
the NECŪ
L Labor: concerned with safety in the workplace
R/T Research/Testing Labs: independent organizations developing/
enforcing standards
E Enforcing Authority: inspectors, enforcers of the NECŪ
I Insurance: insurance companies, bureaus, or agencies
C Consumers: purchasers of products/systems not included in “U,”
users
SE Special Experts: provide special expertise, not applicable to other
classifications
UT Utilities: installers/maintainers of systems not covered by NECŪ
