Hello! New here! I am constantly getting the prompt to run an older version of java, and when I click on either yes or cancel it still pops up every time I switch to a new page. Using Mozilla. Any ideas how to make it stop?

Welcome Aboard!

Sorry, I don't have an answer to your question, but hopefully someone else will have an idea.

Hi and welcome, fishingmaniac.
Which version of Firefox are you using and also which version of Java?
I find it hard to believe it's asking you to run an older version of Java, I have been known to be wrong before though.

I get the opposite deal whenever I try to run chat. It says my Java is too old (it is moldy). Everything else here works OK
Posted By: fishingmaniac Re: Anyone New Here?? - 01/19/11 01:52 PM
It wants to use older version 1.6.0-rc
Don't know which I have, but it says mine's newer.
Mozilla 3.6.13 latest version

I'm new. I just gotta figure out how to get pics from my phone to my computer.
Posted By: fishingmaniac Re: Anyone New Here?? - 01/20/11 12:16 AM
The app here that's calling it is called count.chatcounter
Maybe when I reboot my computer it'll stop
Posted By: Trumpy Re: Anyone New Here?? - 01/20/11 12:49 AM
fishingmaniac,
If a re-boot doesn't solve this, here are a few thoughts that may help.
Firefox 3.6+ will not work correctly with any less than Java version 6 update 10.
I seem to remember having a similar problem when I upgraded my browser to FF 3.6.

Now, what I suggest you do is manually remove any trace of Java from your computer, via Add/Remove Programs (or whatever your operating system calls this application, in the Control Panel).
When you update or upgrade Java, the installer that comes with the newer version will not by default remove the older version(s). crazy

From there, I suggest you download and install the latest version of Java, which you can find on this page.

One other thing, make sure that you have Java enabled in Firefox, you can check this by clicking on Tools > Add-Ons, the Add-Ons window will open, click on the Java listings, if the "button" to the right of the listing says Enable, it means that Java is disabled, click this to enable Java.

If this doesn't solve the problem, let me know.

That's interesting. I am running Java 1.4.2 for another application. The only thing I have a problem with in Firefox is chat. It used to work a while ago.

Greg,
Software gets updated every now and then.
To use the chat thing here you need the latest version, regardless of your penny farthing model Java.

My problem is I have a piece of software I use all the time that won't work with the new Java. The software that moves shows back and forth from my DVR to the PC.

You folks hear enough from me anyway wink

Uninstalled all JAVA and reinstalled latest (I had latest before uninstall) and poof! Problem gone. Thanks!

Now lets see. Here in Massachusetts, I know, I know, it is what it is...

Anyway, trying to make a good rule of thumb for arcfault vs GFCI requirements in residential dwellings, such as:

GFCI:
1) 2 20A GFCI circuits in kitchens
2) at least 1 20A GFCI available in each bathroom
3) unfinished basement receptacles
4) all garage receptacles
5) all outdoor receptacles

AFCI:
Everywhere else except:
unfinished basement receptacles (GFCI there)

what about these:

range? 120 or 240?
refrigerator?
furnace?
AC condensor?
sewage ejector pump?

IMHO No to all
None of these are usually in one of the 210.12 rooms

If you want to continue this, let's start it up over in the "NEC" topic. That is where we have these kinds of conversations. and more people will find it.

Hey all you visitors, I encourage you to pop on in officially. This website has been a great resource for me and many others. There is electricians from all walks of our trade from all corners of the United States (to include us red headed step children from Alaska) to all around the world. Besides all the knowledge here, there's a "colorful" lot of sparkies here just to shoot the breeze with. The door is open, come inside.

Then you left before all the fun began! Nothing quite like throwing out all of the old analog gear and replacing it with new HD stuff.

Too bad all of the old video cable we are pulling out has such a low scrap value.
