Shocked theft suspect remains in critical condition

September 10, 2009

A Salem man still is in critical condition at a Portland hospital after he was shocked with electricity Aug. 30.

Salem Police said Marty Lupoli, 47, was shocked while he allegedly was trying to steal copper wire from an electric box at a vacant building in the 1400 block of Tandem Avenue NE.
The box was charged with 12,500 volts of electricity, according to officials with Salem Electric.
Lupoli was in critical condition Wednesday at the Oregon Burn Center at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Anyone else want to help me do a comprehensive clinical study on 12kV as a cure for stupidity?

Good question
It makes me wonder if the thief knew it might not be copper. I get the impression some of these guys are not too bright.

There was a husband and wife recently arrested in WIchita, KS for stealing copper. They owned a tree trimming business and were using their bucket truck to strip grounding wires off of poles.

How smart can you be to try and steal any kind of wire with 12kv running through it?
