Mike,
I hope you and the missus were not hurt in the little shaker you just had there. I know that they made me a little nervous about sitting under overpasses after the Loma Priata earthquake back in San Francisco in 1989.

It was the most bizarre earthquake that I have ever experienced.
I live in Christchurch, about 50 miles further north than Mike. Usually when we get a quake there are some sharp jolt-type movements accompanied by sounds of the building creaking etc. This one was almost entirely silent, with just a strong rolling feeling a lot like being on a boat. It seemed to go on and on for a long time too.
Still, it is really great that there was so little damage from it. Even the Manapouri Power Station is apparently undamaged!

Yeah,
That was pretty weird, Mark.
BTW, it was centred way south of here, almost at the southern tip of the South Island.

From the accounts I've heard of the quake, it lasted for about 2 minutes.
I was driving home at the time, I thought something was either wrong with my vehicle or my eye-sight.
I stopped on the side of the road and the ground was still shaking.

Good to see no real damage/ injuries occured, because of the quake.
I would like to think that this is a bit of a wake-up call
to some of the authorites here, we are way overdue for a decent earth-quake, this place (NZ) is like a ticking time-bomb.
