OK, we have 13 things leaning to what not to tell a client/customer, so how about what NOT to tell an AHJ?
That ground rod hit a boulder about 3 feet down, so I cut it with the sawzall.

Don't worry, I gave it a few whacks after I cut it to hide the saw marks....:)

The rod would not go any farther, so I cut it & drove the top off-cut instead.

"How many extension cords can I pull in a 3/4" conduit?
"PVC conduit was too expensive, so I buried a old garden hose instead.."
"For God sakes, don't look up in the ceiling!"
good Advice for unqualified contractors. Theres tons of them out there.
"What's this 'NEC' think you keep talking about?"
Yoop:
I have to agree 100% on that!

I used the gray PVC conduit on the elbows, the underground I ran is in the white conduit. I couldn't get the romex through the white elbows so I had to use the gray ones.

".... Fine, I'll call the State" (we have 1 state code)

"Your wrong, besides, that's a stupid rule"
Here, hold my beer while I go get the plumbing contractor.
No I didn't use any boxes, I just spliced everything together in the walls with wirenuts.
"No need to come out ... I already signed the permit for you"

What do you mean #14 is de-rated to 15 Amps?
Posted By: Tesla Re: How about...13 things NOT to tell the AHJ? - 07/04/09 02:24 AM
So I can't use 2 #10 instead of a #6?

I need an oversized neutral, you say?
Posted By: Tesla Re: How about...13 things NOT to tell the AHJ? - 07/04/09 02:25 AM
Don't open that box !

You don't want to look into that gutter !
Posted By: Tesla Re: How about...13 things NOT to tell the AHJ? - 07/04/09 02:27 AM
You mean the neutral and the ground are joined only once ?

Lee,
You really should try and stay away from Craigslist. grin
Nice responses!!

Any more????
Recent top of my list:

"Hi, I'm the EC.
I've NEVER failed an inspection yet!"

200 amp resi service upgrade job.

Panel not marked!
Incompatible CB's in new panel.
NM connectors used for AC/BX (Plastic buttons)

Guess what I said.....I got your cherry!

BTW, how long have you been in business? (After looking at his Lic #)

"This is my second job, the first one was not inspected yet!"

Now that is FUNNY!!!
Lee:
I have given serious thoughts to writing a book about all these situations, but people would think it is a work of fiction!

Another goodie is:

Homeowner permit for whatever.....

I trip the GF on the twistlock for the AG pool and ask the HO
"Where is it so it can be reset?"

Sometimes....the blank stare into space.....
Or; "The 'lectrician didn't tell me where he put it"

More to come
What do you mean red tag for this installation??? The other inspector lets me do it that way all the time.
"We knew we'd shocked the last inspector when the donut flew out of his mouth!"
What I like to hear from the EC's is that Well in your town you won't let me do this. Yet in town "B" that inspector will let me do it.

My answer is, I AM that inspector in town "B", and I don't let you do it there either!

Note! This only works in the towns that I work in! LOL
Harold:
Amazing...
I hear "the AHJ in (adjacent town) lets us do it"....amazing how the story changes when I reach for my cell phone with his number in autodial!

Alan:
Yes, I like most inspectors enjoy a good donut (note good) or pastry.
We just went ahead and installed the outlets and covers in the boxes....we haven't pulled the wire yet...
There's a ladder over there if you want have a closer look.
I know I'm not done yet but it will be exactly like the last 200 or so you approved when I'm done
The kitchen island wasn't originally on the plans, that's why there's no receptacle out there. The kitchen is on a slab. What, you want me to cut open the slab just for an outlet?

C'mon, man.... you've got to be kidding me.

LOL

Sucker!!! Should have went to school! :-)
