Does anyone know of a training station that one can train with some photo eyes, proximity sensors, solenoid valves, etc and a small plc card for traing purposes. I was wondering if there is a small board with these items that one can use for training. Or another way that one can try these items out.

Cinner:
Our local county vo-tech schools offer (evening adult) classes in PLC's; motor controls, etc.

I realize that you're up north...but you may have a similar program available.

Do you work in industrial. If not, you may consider trying it out. I learned about controls working directly with them. Seeing them operate and solving problems. Plus, most good employers have training available for guys like you. Otherwise try out local tech school as suggested above.
