In regard to the #8 solid wire that we need to run around the pools (say we use an above ground
pool for an example). The #8 is not supposed to be ran back to the green #12 ground wire that we run with the other conductors for the motor? The code says, its not the intent to attach the two. The code wants to just Bond together the metal parts and not attach it to the Equipment Ground right?

SJT,

For an above ground pool, the #8 copper wire just has to attach from the metal of the pool to the bonding lug on the motor of the pool filter. (Then through the internal components, the bonding wire is connected to the grounding conductor of the feed wire.)
