A customer of mine wants to control his landscape lighting (that is pluged into a recpt. on the side of the house) with a remote control, as in hand-held, battery opperated switching device. I tryed to get him to just put a switch in the wall in the living room, or on the porch, but no luck. Any ideas, or know of products that might work? The switching means, (ie, the reciever) would have to be outside, and about 30 or 40 feet away from where the remote would be used most of the time, and on the other side of the wall. (As in, the remote might be used in the liveing room, inside.)
Can anybody help? I'm haveing a hard time finding anything, and the local supply house looks at me as if I'm from mars.
Thanks for any help.... Electricwonder

Use Leviton PCC controls or X-10 controls. You would need to install a receiver in the transformer or in a separate box at the transformer. Calif Landscape lighting has transformers with the receivers built in. Inside a remote module plugs into any convent receptacle that receives the signals from the hand held remote.

I just saw at Home Depot a remote control setup for x mas lights. It was not for direct wiring but perhaps there is somethig along those lines for permanent installation. There was a remote and a small receiver that plugs into an outside recept and the lights plug into it.

Hey Y'all,
Thanks for the responce, sorry I haven't checked in sooner. The next time I spoke to my customer, he had bought the one you spoke about from Home Depot, just plugs in and has a battery powered remote. It's even somewhat weatherproof. Looks like it's gonna work fine for the situation. Thanks for your time!
