I just looked at a job at an Army base. They are rehabbing 2900 units. The work involves removal of the old switches, receptacles and replacing them with new and adding GFI's where needed. The ceiling fixtures will also be replaced. All matls are supplied by the base. Cleanup is not part of the work either, just strip, replace and move on.

Any thoughts on a per opening price? The work may get split between contractors. The pay is supposed to be at 30 days.

Any caveats? I already warned them about the possible problem with the luminaires and the old wiring regarding temperature constraints.

are the units similar? perhaps a 'per unit' $$$ ?

oh and, about the fixtures & old wiring, there is to my understanding no 'approved' method ( all pie in da sky aside..) so i just pigtail a few inches of 90deg rx bettween the old wiring & new fixture....

All the units are supposed to be similar. 2 bed, 1 1/2 bath living and kitchen.

My thought is about 12 minutes per device to remove and re-install x no. of devices. Should I bump this up?

If you base it on 12 minutes per device(switch/receptacle) you should be very safe. We do it in about half that time as long as the wire is in decent shape and post 1960ish and not aluminum or copper clad. Of coarse fixtures or "luminaires" as we now call them, take a little longer.

You could just charge an hourly rate.

your per opening is not bad but always put in your bid that you are not responsible for any unforeseen wiring that might have to be repaired to make the installs safe or devices that they supply. always protect your self the goverment can be very sticky about any up charges
