I understand that new rules in the 2002 NEC require a "warning ribbon" for certain types of underground conductors.

Is this applicable to both, under and over 600 volts, and what are the 2002 NEC references that support the rule?

How do you accomplish the end result?

See 300.5(D)(3). This section requires a warning ribbon at least 12" above the service conductors unless they are encased in concrete. Note that this rule only applies when you install the conductors in a trench. The rule doesn't apply where direction boring is used to install the conductors.

seems to me warning ribons are a good idea anytime you dont want to retrench your wires.no mater what the load.
