Yup its 440.65. not 440-65, reminds me of star trek ( star date 440.65...) [Linked Image]

ok, lemme read this to you here...

Single-Phase cord & plug connected room air conditioners shall be provided with factory-installed LCDI or AFCI protection. The LCDI or AFCI protection shall be an integral part of the attacthment plug or be located in the power supply cord within 300 mm (12 in) of the attatchment plug.

What is a LCDI ?
Has anyone seen one in breaker form?
What if the circuit already has AFCI protection?
Would this take the place of AFCI protection in a bedroom dedicated AC circuit?
What next, AFCI for dryer circuits to address static cling?
I,m soooo [Linked Image]

Sparky,

Haven't heard that one yet!
I don't have the '02 yet (next week) but I did download the drafts in PDF from NFPA - guess what?
There is no 440.65 there! maybe it was a last minute addition? [Linked Image]

NEC 2002 440.65 notes the AFCI or LCDI to be an integral part of the attachment plug or within 12" of the attachment plug.

That leaves the branch circuit portion to the recp out of the picture.

LCDI 'leakage current detection and interruption.
and that is 440.65, now is that not what a GFCI does. they are turning a once great trade into a bunch of Sea-lawyers.
