From Albert LaFrance I just found a fantastic one illustrated in a British book titled "General Electrical Engineering", from the 1940s. It shows the control panel for the electric propulsion system of an ocean liner.
I've attached the scanned image; this has to be one of the coolest control panels ever!
(here's a pic I found of the ship, January 1931)
