iwire,
Do you guys consider too risky to let everyone have the ability to insert a jpg.

It has not been a problem, and with the decent members here I doubt it ever will be.

If any questionable content gets posted the moderators hear about it quickly and I doubt any of us would hesitate to delete inappropriate matrial.

That said I am sure that Bill A (the operator of this site) would quickly remove the ability of the members to post images if it got out of control.

IMO Bill wants this site to be suitable for family viewing at all times.

I am a member of a sports message board and inserting a photo is as easy as copy and paste. As a note that board is pure evil and no one has ever posted anything offensive.

Well that to me is a good example of people understanding time and place.

Some areas of the Internet are still the untamed frontier, here at this site that is not the case. [Linked Image]

Rob,

There are a number of reasons. Server Space, Bandwidth and Content are all things to consider.

Hard Drive space can fill up pretty quick when anyone can use it, especially with the size of todays digital picture files. Single picture files can be HUGE in size, both physically and file-wise. If these were posted as is it would cause everyone to have to scroll, and loading times would make it impossible for people on slower connections to see them. This also adds to bandwidth and makes it slower for even the faster connected members.

Rob,
As an example, your picture of the "Solar Support" as sent was 2048 x 1536 pixels in size.....twice the width of many monitor screens, and 1.75 Megabytes....(my software says it would take about 313 seconds to load at 56.6 Kbps).
As seen on the website it is 550 pixels in width, and file size is only around 100 Kilobytes.

Electure,
I understand now that we cant do that. I purposely sent that photo to you in a larger format so you could size it acordingly with loosing much resolution. Its just not very convienent for members wanting to post photos.

Respectfully submitted
