Hi, I am wondering what to do about a ASER cable that the sheath some how got cut in several places along the middle section of a 50 foot run. It looks like a nail or some sharp edge that was hidden got a hold to it.
I cant reallt tell if the XHHW conductors were just scored or if the insulation was actually cut or not.
I hate to replace the cable if there is an acceptable way to use it.
Thanks for any replies or suggestions.

Greg- Since the outer jacket would not figure in as the electrical insulation on the coductors, I'd remove the outter jacket where it was damaged and inspect the conductor insulation. If the conductor insulation and the uninsulated conductor are are not damaged, I'd use a good grade of plastic tape and tape the cable up and move on.

George, I was thinking that I could do that. The sections that have some cuts are accessible and I was thinking of using a few wraps some 33 on it. The sheath for this cable is very thin and not very durable.
As a matter of fact that is my opinion of all residential wire except UF. It seems to me they would make a tad bit tougher.
Thank you for the comment.

Sgreany, Thanks for the input. I dont see where the conductors themselves were damaged. I think the code allows us to build the insulation back up to the original level and as long as there is no METAL lost on the conductor itself there current carrying capacity of the cable is as good as anything on the shelf.
I will put some 77 on first.
Safety is always my main concern.
